"A sandwich freak" I said to myself, what a catchy name. I guess on more than one occasion during class, I mentioned my business travels during the PC Technician series I was teaching.
To better explain, for eight and one half (8 1/2) years I was a business traveler. As I returned to my hotel room at the end of each business day I would always order a Turkey Sandwich on Wheat with everything except Tomatoes, a plate of sliced fruit or Apple Pie Alamode, and the biggest - best Margarita (double shot- top shelf) with no ice. This became the signature meal I was known for throughout the United States.
So I tried to explain to the student that each sandwich ordered had a distinct flavor profile that varied from region to region and from coast to coast. For example, if I specified Wheat bread on my room service order, the sandwich delivered could be on whole wheat, whole grain, honey wheat, rolled oats or Artisan Wheat bread. The type of Turkey could be peppered, plain, smoked, mesquite, etc. The type of sandwich spread could include Pesto, Mayonnaise (i.e., plain, Chipotle, etc.), Mustard (i.e., spicy or regular) or a special house sauce. The veggies used to prepare the sandwich could include lettuce (i.e., Romaine, Arugula, Butter, Boston, or Mesclun), pickles (i.e., Dill or Kosher), peppers (i.e., Banana, Bell, Jalapeño, etc.), onions (i.e., white, yellow or red) or Bean Sprouts. However the cheese used had to be Swiss or aged Swiss and my preference was Jarlsberg Swiss Cheese.
Again, the student said "You are just a sandwich freak...All this week different people drop by your class unannounced just to bring you a Turkey sandwich with Lemonade.” So I again stopped class and explained to the students that the Turkey sandwiches with Lemonade received were payment for repairing their computers or laptops. So I printed out a basic recipe for a Turkey Sandwich with freshly squeezed Lemonade and gave a copy to each of my students.
From that point forward I was known by all either as the guy in computer lab 412 who repaired computers for free or I was known as the guy who loved Turkey Sandwiches a.k.a. "The Sandwich Freak". I, however, preferred the latter of the two. So now my life's journey is to discover the best sandwich made, figured out how it was prepared (Freaked) and share my experiences with those who have like passions.
